Lives in the Balance

Lives in the Balance, which is funding this documentary, is the non-profit organization founded by child psychologist Dr. Ross Greene. Lives in the Balance aims to foster collaboration and empathy, transform lives, and inspire change for all children (especially the most vulnerable), to heighten awareness of the detrimental and counterproductive effects of punitive interventions, and to address the systemic issues that impede our progress. The mission of Lives in the Balance is to provide vital, accessible resources and programs to caregivers of behaviorally challenging kids; to bring the plight of these kids into the public consciousness; to address the systemic issues that cause many of these kids to slip through the cracks; and to promote parenting and disciplinary practices that foster the better side of human nature in all children. Mika Holliday Lentz is a Producer/Director/Writer/Archivist who has traveled the world making historical, expeditionary, and impactful and award-winning documentaries. “We are throwing our money at the ‘end’ of the problem, instead of solving it when these kids are young. It’s such a tremendous waste of our resources and of these kids’ potential.”

Tony Bacon is an Emmy award-winning documentary Editor/Director/Producer. “I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this film. Some people assume these kids are getting the treatment they deserve. Our film shows the sweet moments of their childhoods and reminds us all they are just kids. And, they are kids who most need our help.”

Christine Boutureira Lyons is a freelance Associate Producer, researcher, and writer. As a former classroom teacher and parent to two boys, she was naturally drawn to working on The Kids We Lose. “It’s so important that we recognize that all kids want to be ‘good’ and want to behave. Some just lack the skills they need to do so.”
